9 Months...Milestones, Milestones!

In the last month we now have a talker, a waver a stander and a walker (ok, stepper)!!

Yes, Ms. Evelyn's first word was Mama.  Yes, it was usually accompanied by a cry and her pitifully saying Maaaaaamamamama, Mamamaaamaaaaa- but I will take it! I am convinced that she is calling for me as she doesn't do it all the time.  Sometimes she will say Babababababa- or just a firm BA and we are thinking that means Bottle.  We are also convinced (ok I am convinced) that she is also saying pup, hi and up.  We will update more on that next month to see if that is still happening :)

She also started waving hi- this is usually accompanied by saying 'hi' in a high pitched voice.  If you say 'bye' and wave, she looks at you as if you have 4 heads, we are working on this!

Evie has also been periodically standing alone for longer periods of time before she grabs onto her toy or whatever she is standing near.  I would say she can stand for almost a minute without grabbing on now.

AND

A few days ago she took her first steps.  At first it was one, then a while later one more.  THEN she took 4!!!  We got it on camera!  Nana was at the house, so she captured the magic moment as usual!  Still crawling everywhere, but will take steps when coaxed.  So as of right now would say we have a 'stepper'!

Eve's also had her 9 month appointment on Monday.  The little stink is 20 lbs 7 oz (67%), and 28.6 inches (78%) and has a melon that is in the 100%!!

She is still as busy as ever and loves to be in everything.  She is becoming so much more interactive with the dogs, and loves climbing over Feather.  Brooks still likes Evie on his own terms.  He is in for even more when she begins using walking as her preferred mode of transportation- poor guy will be living in the comfort of the master closet soon (that's his safe spot).

She is still a great eater, and we are working on more solids.  Silly girl loves her purees and Cheerios.  She will eat the crust of toast, and loves steak and pork.  We are working on chicken and turkey, but she is for sure her Papa's daughter.  Loves her meat.

Sleeping is going well.  Of course about a week after her first tooth, the second bottom one came in.  It disrupted things a little, but has gone back to waking once or not at all during the night.  Thankfully she usually needs a nook replacement a pat on the back or a quick rock to go back to sleep- I think we are out of the night feedings until her next growth spurt.  Thankfully my milk stock is still in good supply!

Not only do we think she is funny, but she thinks she is funny, too.  She loves to laugh- and has also mastered her fake laugh.  If someone else is laughing, she wants to join in.  She loves to give raspberries and will mimic faces and noises.  Better start being careful!

We were doing some renovations in the house and got the tub working on the main level (sister and I were renovating the master bathroom that is tied to the hallway tub and finally got a plumber out to fix all the issues, currently we use the shower downstairs).  We thought Evie would like a 'big girl bath' as we have been bathing her in the infant tub in the kitchen sink until now.  Boy were J and I wrong.  We tried three days in a row.  Poor girl had a major meltdown all three times- so much so she would cry if you brought her into the bathroom and she saw the tub- we had to pull the shower curtain to hide the tub.  SO we are going to give it a break for a few weeks and slowly reintroduce it.  She won't want to bath in the infant tub when she is in kindergarten...right?

Speaking of the renovations, we have had a disgusting master bathroom since the day we moved it.  We tried to paint and clean, just didn't work.  Our solution was to close the door and use the hallway bathroom until we decided we had saved enough pennies and had the time to do a major DIY project.  Since our first floor is pretty much completely done (just a few minor things here and there), my sister said she would come home from Maryland for the week to renovate.  She designs kitchens and bathrooms so we used her expertise and skills to get to work.  J and his brother did the demo.  All of the floor tile was above about 2.5 inches of cement.  Not only did we have to demo the tile but all of the subfloor as well.  Alyssa and I layed new subfloor, some places needed to be built up a bit.  Then we put in the backer board- and we decided to do a shower pan and tile the walls of the shower.  After a few mishaps the floor is done and the shower is almost done- which was the goal of the trip, I can do the rest at a slower pace to finish, pics to come!  All I can say is thanks to YouTube and a generous friend from work who lent us his wet saw!

OK- back to the babe....

Being a little stink...

With all of the joy that this little bug brings we also had some sadness this month.  We lost Grandma Marie (my dad's mother).  She lead a long and beautiful life of 90 years.  We said goodbye to her this past weekend with a nice service in Wisconsin.  Events like these remind you to count your blessings and soak in every day as if it were your last.  It also reminds you that family is the first and foremost and make your hugs a little bit tighter and a little bit longer.

I hope all is well with each of you and your families- hoping summer lasts just a little bit longer!!!

Andrea

8 Months

Yes, yes, I know I am late in my post!  The house has been crazy lately.  Between work and trying to spend as much time with my little peanut butter as possible...its tough :)

Evie is still a little busy bee.  She has mastered her version of crawling and has even started to cruise along anything she can pull herself up on: couches, coffee table, the wall, her toys, the cabinets and even the railings.  She is a good mix of independent and snuggly.  She has her times where she loves to be held, and others when she is fighting to be free and lick the floor (even at my work, yum).  She is overall a happy, loving baby who is growing up too fast!

Her favorites lately:
-Reading her favorite books
-Crawling to the master bed room to look at the fan
-Giving kisses and being kissed
-Playing Super Girl (legs straight onto Papa's belly and she flys through the house!)
-Laughing at the dogs (even her fur cousin Max)
-Being outside
-Watching kids
-Eating Cheerios
-Showing 'SOOO BIG' but not when you ask...on her own.  Then you say it, she    does it again and laughs
-Clapping and playing 'Patty Cake'
-Being tickled

Sleeping is still going well.  She has been a champ at night, very rarely waking up at night (now that I share this with the world, she will change her habits).  However, she is up between 5:15-6am and fired up!  J and I take turns 'sleeping in' on the weekends.

She is still a great eater.  We are doing a lot of the same, just introducing a few new foods here and there while keeping her favorites. She loves her purees...still a toothless wonder. (UPDATE: while this post was in progress the little bugs first tooth broke through!!! 8/16/13)  We have been slowly trying to introduce her favorites as finger foods, but she is not a huge fan- it will just take some time.  She will eat breads and a few others with help.  Next up: meat!  Thinking we will start with some chicken.

We are so in love with our little pumpkin- all we want to do is just squeeze her! She is so freaking cute. Here are some pic to prove it ;)

Weekly Pics...We are still at them!  I just think about how big she was at 32-35 weeks in my belly....and now we are 32-35 weeks out!

Monthly...She was a little stink for this one.  She wouldn't sit still!

Someone else had a big month...this guy is 8 YEARS old! Brooks is officially a 'senior'.  He got started on a senior weight management program...the bugger likes to eat...and sleep!

I am trying to keep up being a friend, wife, mommy, daughter and worker bee.   I am attempting some changes to make me better at all of these....more to come on all that:)

Hope all is well, until next month (or a big milestone)

7 Months!

Month after month, I cannot believe how fast time goes by.  Evie is one busy seven month old.  She is 'creeping' everywhere, and can move pretty quickly! The little stink also figured out how to go from laying down to sitting...and she had already figured out pulling herself up..so see below to what I wake up to...seriously best thing ever.

June was super fun, we celebrated Father's day with an early morning of golf (john and his brother).  I think he had a pretty good guess of what he was going to get as he woke me up on Saturday night, I was lame and in bed early, just to let me know he had a 'really early tee time'.  So I caved and gave him is new driver and sand wedge on Saturday night.  (That was a story in itself...I was so overwhelmed at the golf store I forgot to tell the sales guy J is a leftie...so Evie and I had to go back a second time!) We had a breakfast of biscuits and gravy for the Papa.  Followed by a relaxing afternoon of naps, a beautiful trip to the park, and then a yummy dinner of Mongolian Beef...another Papa favorite.  From what he tells me...all in all a great first Father's Day.

John and I even got out for our first date alone since Evelyn was born!  Another funny story...we went to Bayside (most of you probably know we used to be fairly permanent fixtures there! Evie has even been to dinner there like 3 or 4 times...the manager recognizes her...sad I know- but maybe not cause I have a cute baby).  We decided we would rough out the 'little rain' outside...then the wind started, ok so we gave in and went inside..again we were determined to stay!  Then the power went out..and then on...and then out- for good.  They stopped serving everything... we didn't want to go relieve Nana at 8:30, so we continued onto another favorite, Vic's.  We were still home by 10:30- and Nana was sitting with the lights off playing Candy Crush on the corner of the couch.  She claims the power was in and out, but now that it was back on she needed to charge her phone to play.  Funny sight...on Nan.  Remember the storm that knocked out power to some for like days...yeah that is the night we decided to go out for the first time.  Had it not been family- we would have been home at like 7:45!

Evelyn is still a great eater.  She loves avocado, banana, apple, sweet potato, peas, lima beans, avocado, carrots, watermelon, blueberries, pears, spinach (yes plain spinach!), and did I say avocado?!  and of course 'puffs'.  I think if we let her, she would just eat puffs all day.  She loves those!    All though she has no teeth (they have to be coming soon...she is a drooling and chomping machine) she loves to gum her puffs and cherrios.  If you help her with 'food' like bananas or blueberries, cut up small of course, she will eat better than if you just put them on her tray.  She is very good with her pointer finger and thumb.  Very intentional in her grabbing!  We have been trying new foods every few days, and so far so good on no reactions.  She is beginning to use a sippy cup.  Not sure how much she is actually getting when she is using it unassisted, but with help she takes in a bit.  Nana taught her how fun it is to drink from a cup and bottle of water...she think's she fancy drinking like a really big girl.   And to round out the food convo, I decided to quit nursing and start using the frozen milk that will last until she is one...I don't think she seems to notice, I think it is much harder on me :)

We had quite a few firsts this month.  We transitioned to a 'Big Girl' carseat, went swimming for the first time, went for her first bike ride, and even started swimming lessons!  She is getting so big so fast- its crazy!
In her bike trailer with her pony helmet and sippy!

The little bug standing and shrieking happily in her crib...almost every morning!
(a tell tale she's not ready to actually wake up and she is just hungry/needs a nook is she is CRABBY and awake, usually pretty easily soothed back to sleep)

I figured out the video!  Here is her creeping...it is a little speedier than in real life- but you get the idea, you can see how she like sit scoots on her right leg, she's sooo close to an actual crawl.

p.s. I did manage to renew my teaching license- wanting to keep my options open, at least for the next 5 years when I have to renew again!
